What next for Inter?

Sometimes you can be so close, but yet so far. That's how Inter Milan must be feeling after the Champions league final, after all they did what everyone else was trying to achieve which was making it to the champions league final. But the game was a quick reminder of how far they are from PSG. On the surface it may look like PSG were just the inform team and no team was going to stop them, but the manner in which they dominated Inter points to a deeper issue at play. Inter by all means have had a good season, champions league finalists & serie a runners-up which they lost on the final day to Napoli. This is now back to back defeats in a champions league final for Inter, and many of the same players that were there for the first defeat versus Manchester city were present in their most recent defeat as well. If Inter want to take that next step there are a few issues in the make up of their squad they must address.

The first area they must address is in defence. Bastoni has proven to be one of the best defenders in world football & he is a piece that they should look to secure for years to come. Outside of Bastoni it was very evident against PSG & versus Barcelona as well that their defenders lack the athleticism to compete with the world's best. Acerbi & Stefan De Vrij should be moved on from, Yann Bisseck & Carlos Augusto should both be competing for regular places in the first 11, but Inter should also be looking to reinforce that area.

Inter need to get younger & more athletic at the defensive positions. There are a few players who I believe should be on Inter Milan's radar.

Ousmane Diomande, Sporting Lisboa, 21, 45 million euro market value

Lucas Beraldo, PSG, 21,25 million euro market value

Wilfried Singo, AS Monaco, 24, 24 million euro market value

Ryan Flamingo, PSV Eindhoven,22, 20 million euro market value

Jhon lucumí, Bologna FC, 26, 18 million euro market value

All the players listed I believe would be great additions to bolster Inter's back line. The best value for money for me would be Lucumí, this is because he is already familiar with the league & it would not take long for him to seamlessly fit into Inzaghi's back three system. He's been one of the best performers in Serie A this season helping lead Bologna to their first trophy in many years. I also believe his price tag would be a bargain for Inter.

Lucumí's defensive stats for the season are some of the highest in serie A, for a club like Inter who have been competing at the top in Europe & serie A for the past few seasons I believe they should be purchasing players who are ready to play right away. The potential acquisition of Lucumí checks all the boxes for an immediate impact in defense for Inter.
